Ecuador's coast is a year-round destination, but each season has its character. The good news: sitting right on the equator, temperatures stay warm all year. The difference is in the sun, the sea and — yes — the whales.

Sun and beach season: December to May

It's the high season for a reason: clear skies, warmer water and the best beach days. It also brings the year's best waves for surfing. If guaranteed sun and warm water are your priority, aim for these months (with New Year's and Easter as peak-demand windows).

Whale season: June to September

The sky turns greyer (the local "garúa" mist), but the sea comes alive: thousands of humpback whales arrive to breed off the Manabí coast. It's the best time for whale watching and usually brings lower rates. Surf stays active.

The secret months: October and November

The season transition. The town is quiet, skies begin to clear and rates are friendly. For anyone after Ayampe at its most peaceful, it's an ideal window — and exactly when Sandpiper Villas opens its doors.
